Gems of Wisdom

  • Develop hardware, electronics, and software in parallel so that none are ever waiting long periods of time for implementation of the others.
  • Mornings are almost always empty in the lab.  If you need some quiet time to complete something, early morning will always be more available than late at night. The lab is also empty on Thanksgiving.
  • Feed grumpy members to keep them happy.
  • Plan your progress early.  If done well, vacations and time off can be taken.
  • Have a set of basic tools that can be used once the lab looks like the aftermath of a tsunami and doesn't have any tools anymore.
  • Label your tools or else they will be taken by accident.
  • Make friends with shop TA's.  They can get you in the shop off hours to make parts during times not available for reservation.
  • Keep track of how much money each team member is spending so that you can square with each other later.
  • Measure a bunch of times.  Cut/glue once.
  • Start building early. It's easy and will make you feel much better about your progress.
  • Keep electronics very organized. It will save you a lot of pain during final assembly.
  • The churros at Taqueria El Grullense are a great way to boost team spirit.
